Letter to a fellow traveler on the road of life

My blog is where I go deeper, share more intimate writing that touches hearts and makes you pause, even for a moment, to ask yourself the quiet questions that are hiding behind the noise of life.

This post is a letter to a fellow traveler, a seeker, a person in his becoming stages on his transformational journey. May it serve you as well.

Dear friend,

I’ve been where you are now. I know this push/pull sensation well and the conflict that arises when you attempt to make that shift.

That deep part inside of you is the YOU that is becoming. Your “ego” (the thing that keeps you attached to messages internal and external about work and earning) sees this as shrinking, as becoming less than what you have been. It will fight every step of the way in order not to lose its position.  What must be understood here is that this is not at all about shrinking or even letting go. It is indeed a letting BE and a deeper way of being in the world that is more aligned with the YOU that is becoming more spiritual, more centered in his heart. But the YOU that was (identity) has not yet given the YOU that is becoming permission to step in.

The shift is that this new version, this evolved version, this person who is rebirthing himself is longing to be present now in your life. Longing. Calling to you. I promise you, this calling will only get louder until not changing your life is no longer an option.

But you must appease the ego telling your Self that there is no surgery here or cutting away but an adding to what was and who was, that is deeper and present in life as a culmination of all the YOUs that ever were. Not shrinking. Not less than. No loss. Amplification and expansion based on a different set of criteria, not the criteria of your external world but the criteria of your soul. Your truth is now different than it was before. It’s calling to be honoured.

I found that when I made this shift to simplify and align with my own call that the Universe surprised me with gifts I could never have expected. I am not saying it was easy but even in difficulty I found grace and strength, courage and goodness, that I did not know existed within me. Once I embraced this shift and acknowledged that what was inside me was more significant than what was outside me, the Universe responded by providing me with a life that keeps me closer to nature and to my writing (my true soul work) and work that is fully aligned with who I am today.

You believe you will lose earnings or safety. You won’t. Even that measurement will change for you because you will have new criteria. You know the question I ask myself, that keeps me in alignment and helps me choose my clients, work, activities?  My question is “Am I free, does this X keep me free?”  My criteria shifted to freedom, what provides me more grace, what brings me closer to “God” or the Creator, the divinity within me that each of us holds but does not hold as sacred for a large part of our lives. Until the call…and the longing…helps us to see, through the conflict and our struggle and our suffering, that our being true to ourselves IS our sacred work. It is not out there as we have been told. It starts within me.

You are at a different point in your life that cannot be compared to where you have been. Imagine, you start walking a road. There is a lovely pond at the beginning of your path. Five miles later, you meet the ocean. Do you want the ocean to be that pond? Can that ocean be that pond? No, it cannot. You cannot hold onto the pond, only hold the experience of the pond so that you can also appreciate the ocean upon your arrival. You will miss out on the beauty and expansiveness of the ocean if all you long for is the pond, the point at which you began.

If at any time you’d like to talk about your journey, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I would be happy to be your witness having travelled a similar road myself.

Blessings,

Alicia
